Quantock Rangers installing new Information Board.

16th May 2007

The Quantock rangers, with the permission of the owners and Somerset County Council, have erected an interpretation board on the Castle Mount in Nether Stowey.
The board has been ready for a few weeks but the weather was not.

Andy and Andrew deciding were to put board. So, on a windy Wednesday morning, Quantock rangers Andy Harris and Andrew Davis, together with Jan Grow from Somerset County Council's archaeological department, visited castle mount to put the board in place. The first job was to decide where the board should go, then it was the hard work digging the holes, at least it was only two!

Is it deep enough yet?The depth of the holes had to be right, this was hard work as the place chosen was more stone than soil, so it took longer than expected to dig. Then it was in with the board to check the level, nearly perfect just a little more earth to remove. The level was checked again - perfect! The concrete was then added and another quick check with the level, not quite right, a couple of hefty hits - have to do this quickly before the concrete sets. Andy looked a bit nervous at this point, but no fingers were hit. At last level. Now the rest of the hole was infilled and the extra stones were distributed.

Quantock rangers tiding up.Jan Grow was ther just in case the rangers found anything of interest. Her job would have been to record and photograph anything of archaeological value. Unfortunately nothing exciting was discovered this time.

A job well done
Once the board was in place the information panel was fitted.
A job well done.
