This beautiful one storey cottage was built in the early part of the 19th century. It was built as a gatehouse in the

"Cottage ornee style with a hipped thatched roof with deep eaves supported on rustic poles to form a verandah with a patterned cobbled floor"

There was a pit in the floor which was part of the mechanism which enabled the gate keeper to open the gates from the shelter of the verandah. The original mechanism was designed and made by the local village blacksmith. The house was also sold when the estate was acutioned in 1950.
